Marilyn Ramirez is a second generation immigrant born and raised in Inwood, the northernmost neighborhood in NYC. She is the daughter of working class parents and her keen observation of society led her to studies in Latino culture and masters degrees in sociology and special education. She’s been teaching for the past 15 years in the same neighborhood where she grew up. She is exploring her creative side and has written short stories about her culture and relationship with her mother published on Dominicanwriters.com She is currently working on an adult fiction novel that centers around immigration in the 1960’s. Marilyn lives with her two teenage children. She also has an adult son and a granddaughter who spends the summers with her.
